… Sunshine with Seasonal Temperatures Through the Weekend …
… A Little Warmer Temperatures …

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a strong cold front is draped over the Gulf of Mexico from central Florida southwestward into the southwest Gulf of Mexico. Surface high pressure, to the north of the cold front, extends from the intermountain west southeastward into Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light northwesterly.

On the upper air map… a deep broad trough, or line, of upper level low pressure covers most of the USA and extends southwestward from Hudson Bay into Texas and then into northeastern Mexico. Upper level high pressure is oriented north-south over the west coast of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are southwesterly 100 to 110 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

In the wake of the snow producing upper level low pressure trough, it looks like lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures over the coming days and even into the early and mid part of next week.

Have a good Friday….

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #8
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
345am CT – Friday / 08  December 2017

.. No Further Precipitation Expected ..
.. Roadways Drying Out in Many Areas but a Few Slick Spots are Possible Especially
in Areas East through Southeast and South of the Austin Metro Area ..
.. Freeze Warning into the Morning as Skies Slowly Clear ..

.. OTHER THAN THE FREEZE WARNING, NO WATCHES/ADVISORIES/WARNINGS, AS
ISSUED BY NWS/AUSTIN-SAN ANTONIO, REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA ..

The upper air disturbance has now generally moved east of our area.

Skies are clearing currently along and west of the IH35 corridor with temperatures at or just
above the freezing mark in the IH35 corridor counties. As the clearing trend continues to push
southeastward in the wake of the disturbance, I expect to see temperatures settle down a few
degrees before the Sun rises over the Austin area at 7:15 am CT.

I expect only a few clouds today with an otherwise mostly sunny sky from sunrise through the
balance of the day with temperatures rising into the upper 40s at least by midday then into the
50s this afternoon.

Once again, I strongly feel this will be my last statement on this weather event (no jokes, please).
Have a good Friday and a safe weekend…
