Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Thursday / 07 December 2017

… Clouds and Precipitation Linger Into Tonight …
… Sunshine with Seasonal Temperatures Tomorrow through the Weekend …

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a strong cold front is moving southeastward over the central Gulf of Mexico with a secondary cold front over the Red River country of north Texas. Surface high pressure, to the north of the secondary cold front, is over South Dakota and Nebraska. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are north northeasterly.

On the upper air map… a deep broad trough, or line, of upper level low pressure overs the USA and its axis extends southwestward from Hudson Bay into Arizona into northwestern Mexico. Upper level high pressure is oriented north-south over the west coast of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are southwesterly 90 to 95 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

The upper air low pressure trough, to our west, is continuing to produce an overrunning weather pattern resulting in chilly and wet conditions over the area with temperatures well below seasonal averages.

This rain will persist into tonight before the upper level low pressure disturbance moves east of the area and our skies clear by morning tomorrow through the weekend well into next week. We’ll see warming temperatures as a result of the sunshine.

Have a good Thursday….
