AUSTIN / UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS
WEATHER HAZARDS THROUGH 12 MIDNIGHT TONIGHT…
.. Tropical Cyclone Hannah Approaching the Texas Coast ..
.. Overall Forecast Rainfall Amounts on IH35 Corridor Reduced a Bit ..

AUSTIN / UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS WEATHER
SEVEN DAY WEATHER HEADLINES…
(1) Tropical cyclone Hanna, in the northwest Gulf of Mexico, is moving west northwestward and will move ashore of the mid and lower Texas coast by tomorrow. Clouds and better rain chances will result locally with some of that rainfall potentially heavy especially in coastal bend areas and areas well south of Austin (generally south of the IH10 corridor). Over the last 24 hours, NWS/Weather Prediction Center forecast rainfall for te IH35 corridor and the Austin metro area has come down a tad to somewhere in the range of 0.50″ to 1.50″ over the next seven days. Temperatures will fall below seasonal averages over the weekend with the increased tropical moisture and more abundant cloud cover and rain chances. All interests along and onshore of the Texas coast should continue to closely monitor the latest information from the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center and trusted weather sources over the two days until landfall. Be a good critical thinker.. avoid unknown/untrusted social media sources that display the worse case forecast scenarios in order to get the most social media “clicks.”
(2) Although rain chances will diminish a bit with the land fall of Hanna and its movement into eastern Mexico over the weekend, lingering tropical moisture will still mean scattered rain showers and thunderstorms for our area into the early into middle part of next week. We’ll see a little more sunshine, though, with afternoon high temperatures edging up a few degrees.
