Dry and Stable Weather Pattern for the Next Seven Days ….

On this Monday morning…. surface high pressure is over the southwest North Atlantic Ocean with low pressure over the eastern slope of the Rockies and over southwestern New Mexico and northern Mexico. Given this surface pressure pattern, surface winds are south southeasterly across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a broad upper level low pressure trough.. or line of low pressure.. is located from the Great Lakes southward into the Mississippi Valley and the southeastern USA. Another strong upper level low is over the southern and central California coast. Between the two.. an upper level ridge.. or line.. of upper level high pressure is over northern Mexico and south and west Texas. As a result of this upper air pattern, winds over south central Texas and the Austin metro area about 18,000 feet above the ground are northeasterly 20 to 30 mph.

It looks dry and summer like through the new week and next weekend as the atmosphere continues quite stable with the upper level high pressure area over northern Mexico and south and western Texas acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere.  Temperatures will be at or above seasonal levels over the next seven days with no rain mentioned in the forecast.

The tropics also remain fairly quiet for now with no development expected over the Atlantic Ocean basin.. including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.. over the next few days.

A Passing Upper Air Low Pressure Disturbance into the Afternoon ….
Dry and Stable Weather Pattern for the Next Seven Days ….

On this Friday morning…. a unseasonably strong cold front is along a line from eastern Tennessee southwestward through the New Orleans area into the extreme northwestern Gulf of Mexico to south of Corpus Christi into northeastern Mexico and into the Texas Big Bend Country. Surface high pressure is settling southward into Texas from the north in the wake of the cold front. Given this surface pressure pattern, surface winds are north northeasterly across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a broad upper level low pressure trough.. or line of low pressure.. is located over the eastern 1/2 of the USA. As a result of this upper air pattern, winds over south central Texas and the Austin metro area about 18,000 feet above the ground are northwesterly 20 to 30 mph.

The cold front, over the northwest Gulf of Mexico, is washing out as it moves southeastward and high pressure settles southward into our area in the wake of the front that moved through our area around 6pm yesterday.

An upper air low pressure disturbance is tracking southeastward over the area with some clouds and rain showers and thunderstorms to our distant west.. but these should remain well south and southwest of the local area. The disturbance will move through the area by early to mid afternoon.

The surface high pressure, in the wake of the front, will move east of the area by later today into tonight with surface winds returning back south southeasterly by tomorrow. Overall, it looks dry and summer like for through the weekend and into the middle part of next week as the atmosphere becomes more stable once again. Temperatures will be at or above seasonal levels for the weekend through next week with no rain mentioned in the forecast.
