Updated 915am CT – Thursday / 08 March 2018

… A Dry and Stable Weather Pattern For Much of the Remainder of the Week …
… Another Disturbance and Cold Front Friday Night into Saturday …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… surface high pressure extends from east Texas northward into the eastern Dakotas as a north-south oriented trough, or line, of low pressure develops over the southern Rockies. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds are east southeasterly.

On the upper air map… a north-to-south oriented trough, or line, of low pressure is centered from the eastern Great Lakes into the southeastern USA. Another upper level low pressure disturbance is moving ashore from the eastern Pacific Ocean into western Washington. As result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are west northwesterly 90 to 100 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

The drier and more stable weather pattern will continue over the area through tonight into early Friday before another upper air low pressure disturbance and associated cold front move through the area by late tomorrow into Saturday and Sunday. High and mid level cloud over the area today will thin a bit today with some sunshine making a return. Clouds will increase over our area as the south southeasterly surface wind off the Gulf of Mexico increase tomorrow through Friday bringing abundant low level moisture northward into the area. Widely scattered rain showers are possible Friday night into early Saturday with a drier more southwesterly surface wind developing on Saturday resulting in much warmer than average temperatures.

The associated surface cold front will lag behind the upper air disturbance not move through the area until Saturday night into early Sunday. Drier and cooler air will move into the area by Sunday through the first part of next week.

Over the next seven days, it will continue to be relatively dry. According to guidance from the NWS/Weather Prediction Center, rainfall over the IH35 corridor will average 1/10th inch or less.

Have a good Thursday..
