… Arctic Cold Front Passes The Area ….

The much advertised cold front has passed through the Austin and south central Texas
area this morning. The front passed Camp Mabry about 635am.. then across the Austin
Bergstrom International Airport about 650am with light rain showers accompanying the
frontal passage (a trace of rain was recorded).

The temperatures have fallen from the 60s into the 40s and 50s and will continue to
slowly fall through the day as skies clear.

Our high temperatures for the day have already been recorded with 65F at 1239am
being the high for day at Austin Bergstrom International and 65F at 101am at Camp
Mabry.

Much colder air will continue to filter south southeastward across the area over the
coming days with freezing temperatures possible in the overnight hours tonight to
our distant northwest then more areawide (especially in outlying and low lying areas)
for Wednesday night and early Thursday morning as well as Thursday night into early
Friday morning.

By the end of the weekend.. with the approach of an upper air low pressure disturbance..
we’ll begin to set up an “overrunning” pattern where moisture from the Gulf of Mexico
returns and rides up and over the colder surface based air. Clouds and rain chances will
increase by late Friday into our upcoming weekend.

The latest guidance suggests that another reinforcing cold front will move across the area..
ushering in more of this unseasonably cold air.. by late next weekend.

I’ll continue to keep you informed..  tk
