TK’s Special Briefing….

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Winter Weather Update #1
Prepared by Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel (www.troykimmelweather.com)

… Possible Winter Weather Event Again Late Monday Night.. Tuesday into Early Wednesday of this Week …

No real changes in my forecast thought since midday today.

A couple of observations…

(1) The NWS Austin-San Antonio has reduced the probability of precipitation slightly for the local area for
the late Monday night through Tuesday and into Tuesday night time period. At most now, they’re talking about
only a 20% probability of precipitation at any given location. In my forecast, I’m retaining a 20% to 30%
probability of precipitation… not a whole lot of difference. This is still a low probability event. The NWS Austin-
San Antonio has not issued any winter weather watches or advisories as of this time.

(2) The NWS Houston-Galveston has issued a WINTER STORM WATCH for most all of southeast
Texas including the Houston area and aerodromes.. to the east of our area.. for the 3am Tuesday through
12 midnight Tuesday night time period. They are introducing possible snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches
across northern southeast Texas including the Bryan-College Station area. This watch will include counties
just to the east of our area including Brazos.. Burleson.. Washington.. Austin and Colorado counties.

(3) The NWS Fort Worth has mentioned in their forecast discussion that southern and southeastern parts
of their county warning area.. including Milam County.. to our northeast around the Rockdale and Cameron
areas.. could receive upwards of 1 inch of snow from this passing system. The NWS Fort Worth has not
issued any winter weather watches or advisories as of this time.

That’s it for now… still much uncertainty that I suspect will become more clear by tomorrow. I’ll continue to
keep you advised.
