TK’s Weather Discussion (Mon/6Feb2012)

Updated  130pm Monday / 6 February 2012

…. Clouds Continue as Pattern of Southwestern Upper Lows Continues ….
…. On and Off Rain Chances as Upper Air Disturbances Move Overhead ….
…. Seasonal Temperatures Continue Through Much of the Next Seven Day Period ….

On this Monday… a stationary front is situated over the central and western Gulf of Mexico with surface high pressure over Oklahoma. As a result of this surface pressure pattern, a northeasterly surface wind is blowing across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a rather broad area of upper air low pressure disturbance is over the western USA centered over Utah. As a result of this pressure pattern, the upper air winds over our area of Texas are moderate southwesterly.

A southerly wind has continued to bring plenty of warm and moist air into our area in the wake of the warm front that passed back northward over our area Thursday afternoon.

Surface high pressure continues to dominate the area as the southwesterly upper air flow continues to produce overrunning cloud cover across the area.

This pattern shows little change over the next few days.. even as one upper level low moves northeastward from the intermountain west, another quickly takes its place.

Another reinforcing cold front will move through the area tomorrow night into early Wednesday with cooler temperatures taking hold. Even so clouds and rain chances, although rather slim, will continue through the end of the week into the weekend with the continued progression of upper level lows into the southwestern USA.

My forecast confidence through this week is high. My forecast confidence for the coming weekend is medium to high.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will see clouds continue with some sprinkles possible. Lows in the 40s with a light southerly wind. For tomorrow, a mostly cloudy sky. Highs around 60 with light and variable wind.

Have a good Monday night and Tuesday…
