TK’s Weather Discussion (Thu/4Oct2012)

Updated 930am CDT Thursday / 04 October 2012

A Stable Weather Pattern Continues…
Strong Cold Front Due Early Saturday Morning With Weekend Cool Down …
Clouds Linger Behind the Cold Front with a Few Sprinkles …

On this Thursday… a high pressure area is located over the southeastern USA. A trough of low pressure area extends southward from eastern Colorado into eastern New Mexico and west Texas with a strong cold front extending from southeastern Kansas into central Oklahoma and the Texas south plains and westward into New Mexico. As a result of this surface pattern, a southerly surface wind continues across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a broad trough.. or line.. of low pressure is slowly deepening over the central USA. As a result of this upper air wind flow, our upper level winds are moderate west northwesterly.

Southerly surface winds have been efficient in returning low level moisture to the area with early morning low cloudiness returning. An otherwise stable weather prevails across our area with partly cloudy skies continuing.

By late Friday into early Saturday, a cold front.. the strongest of the fall season so far.. will move across the area. This front will usher in much cooler air even though clouds will linger back behind the front with even a few sprinkles of very light rain late Saturday into Saturday night. Clouds will break by late Sunday into early next week with a fairly rapid warming of the temperatures for the early and middle part of next week.

Our next weather change is due the middle part of next week with increased clouds and a slight chance of rain.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will see late night low clouds developing with lows in the 60s to near 70 with a southerly wind. For tomorrow, we’ll see morning low clouds otherwise partly cloudy with highs will in the 80s to near 90 with a southerly wind.

Have a good Thursday night and Friday…
