TK’s Special Briefing….

800am CT – Fri / 7 Feb 2014

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY.. as issued by the NWS/Austin-San Antonio..
continues for Travis County (metro Austin) as well as all surrounding counties
throughout the area until 12 noon today….

Some reports of light freezing drizzle have been received to the south through southwest
and west of the Austin area in the last few areas. No major problems reported yet around
our area.

Remember, very light drizzle does not show up very well on Doppler weather radar and
automated weather observations, like most the sites below except ABIA, aren’t able to
distinguish  drizzle as a current weather type. So the first indication that freezing drizzle
is occurring may come from your representatives in the field rather than via radar or
surface weather reports. Please forward your reports, via this email address, from the field
to me and I’ll get those to the NWS/Austin-San Antonio on your behalf.

I am keeping my precipitation probability at 30% for today through midday then
decreasing thereafter… potential trace to several hundredths of an inch amounts possible.

8am temperatures include…

Austin/City (Mabry)….. 30 F
Austin Bergstrom International Airport….. 28 F
Austin Executive Airport (Pflugerville)….. 28 F

Lago Vista Rusty Allen Airport…..  27 F
Georgetown Municipal Airport….. 27 F
San Marcos Municipal Airport….. 28 F

Temperatures should to freezing and slightly above by midday or very early afternoon
today.

In my opinion, this continues as a low probability event with, if it materializes, a high
potential impact
for the Austin metro area and the IH35 corridor.
