Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

TK’s Weather Discussion….

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 11 March 2015

… Clouds Linger …
… Moisture Spreading Northward from the Gulf of Mexico …
… More Sunshine and Warmer Temperatures Tomorrow into the Weekend …

On this Wednesday morning…. a weakening stationary front extends south southwestward from northwestern Alabama into southern Mississippi and southeastern Louisiana into the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. High pressure.. centered over the Rockies and the intermountain west then southeastward into southeastern Oklahoma. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our local surface winds are north northeastward.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere.. an upper level trough.. or line.. of low pressure extends southwestward from the central plains into west Texas and northern Mexico. Within this pattern, a strong upper air disturbance is located over Mexico. As a result, our upper air winds at about 18,500 feet are west southwesterly at 20 to 30 mph.

With the upper level low pressure disturbance moving through Mexico and surface moisture surging northward onto the Texas coast, I think I’m going to have to go back and do updates to the forecast today into tonight in areas along and east of the IH35 corridor with an introduction of rain to the forecast later today through tonight before the disturbance clears to the northeast by tomorrow.

A drier and more stable weather pattern will build in tomorrow into tomorrow night with skies partially clearing thereafter.

This more stable weather pattern will prevail through Friday and through our upcoming weekend and even into early next week. With the increased sunshine, temperatures will be warming back to near seasonal averages.

Regarding my forecast, my local forecast confidence: My forecast confidence is high to very high through the remainder of the week into the upcoming weekend.

Have a good Wednesday….
