Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Tuesday / 21 November 2017

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern Over the Next Seven Days ..
.. Several Dry Cold Frontal Passages Expected ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… surface high pressure is to our distant east of the east coast over the Atlantic Ocean. A cold front extends from south of Hudson Bay through the Great Lakes into northern Missouri into northern Kansas and northwest into Montana. A trough, or line, of surface low pressure extends southwestward from Kansas into west Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light southerly.

On the upper air map… a upper level low pressure trough extending southward from Hudson Bay over the eastern half of the USA. An upper air high pressure has settled more westward off the west coast of Baja Peninsula over the eastern Pacific Ocean basin. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are north northwesterly 50 to 60 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

A return south southeasterly wind will continue today before the cold front to our distant north rapidly moves into our area this evening. Warmer temperatures today will then turn back cooler tonight into tomorrow before a warmer trend sets in for late week into Saturday.

Another weak cold front is expected to pass southward over the area on Saturday with temperatures cooling a few degrees by late in the weekend into early next week.

With a stable and relatively dry weather pattern in place, I do not anticipate and precipitation over south central Texas over the next seven days.

Have a good Tuesday….

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… surface high pressure is to the east northeast of us over the Tennessee Valley. A trough, or line, of surface low pressure extends southward from eastern Colorado into New Mexico and west Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light and variable.

On the upper air map… a upper level low pressure trough extending southeastward from Hudson Bay into the northeastern USA. A second low pressure trough is deepening from south central Canada down into the central USA with a third upper level low off the coast of British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest of the USA. An upper air high pressure has settled more westward off the west coast of Baja Peninsula over the eastern Pacific Ocean basin. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are westerly 30 to 40 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

A return south southeasterly wind will set in my later today and continue into tomorrow with warmer temperatures before another cold front arrives late tomorrow afternoon.

Clearing and cooler weather appears in store for Wednesday with plenty of sunshine and a return southerly wind and warmer temperatures Thanksgiving Day (Thursday) into the weekend.

Another weak cold front is expected to pass southward over the area on Saturday with temperatures cooling a few degrees by late in the weekend into early next week.

With a stable and relatively dry weather pattern in place, I do not anticipate and precipitation over south central Texas over the next seven days.
