Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern Continues ..
.. Unsettled Wet and Stormy Weather Pattern Early into Mid Parts of Next Week ..

On this Thursday… a surface low is over northern Ohio with a cold front extending southward through the Carolinas then southwestward through northern Florida and into the central Gulf of Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light and variable.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, an eastward moving deep trough of low pressure extends southward from the eastern Great Lakes southward into the southeastern USA. An upper level ridge of high pressure extends from the southwestern USA into the intermountain west and northern Rockies. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are west northwesterly at 50 to 60 mph.

A dry and stable weather pattern continues in place across the area. We would expect considerable sunshine with a warming trend underway as we go late week into the weekend.

Another cold front approaches Texas from the west by early next week with increasing low level moisture and increased cloud cover. I will introduce rain and thunderstorm chances by Monday with rain chances peaking Monday night into the predawn hours Tuesday. While the front will settle southward to off the Texas coast by Tuesday into Tuesday night, we’ll still see some lingering clouds and rain chances for Tuesday and Wednesday. The latest NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests rainfall, over the next seven days, will average 1 to 2 inches over our area.

Have a good Thursday….

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern ..

On this Wednesday… a surface low is over southern Missouri with a cold front extending southward through central Arkansas and western Louisiana and then offshore of the Texas coast in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico then inland again over deep south Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are northwesterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, an eastward moving deep trough of low pressure extends southward from Iowa and Missouri southward into eastern Texas. An upper level ridge of high pressure extends from the southwestern USA into the Pacific Northwest and the intermountain west. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are northwesterly at 95 to 105 mph.

A dry and stable weather pattern continues in place in the wake of the overnight cold front that passed through the Austin area and south central Texas around the midnight hour last night.

Expect considerable sunshine with much cooler temperatures today into tomorrow before a warm up gets underway Friday into the weekend with the sunshine continuing.

Another cold front approaches Texas from the west by early next week with increasing low level moisture and increased cloud cover. I will introduce rain chances by Monday with rain chances continuing through midweek with the possibility of some stronger thunderstorms and some heavier periods of rain.

Have a good Wednesday….
