… Rain Chances Diminish After Today …
… A Drier Weather Pattern For Mid and Late Week and the Weekend …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a westward moving low pressure disturbance is located along the Texas coast and over south Texas. A trough, or line, of low pressure extends southward from southeastern Colorado into eastern New Mexico. Surface high pressure is located well to our east over the southeastern USA with another out west over northern Arizona. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are light south southeasterly.

On the upper air map… a broad ridge, or line, of upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, extends eastward from the Rockies into the Ohio Valley region and the southeastern USA. As a result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are easterly between 15 to 20 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

The last of a series of atmospheric disturbances will continue to move westward from the Texas gulf coast and south Texas into northern Mexico. I’ll keep scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the forecast today into this evening. Additional rainfall of 1/4 inch is possible today into tonight.

A drier weather pattern unfolds with rain chances dropping from the forecast or becoming minimal by the middle and latter part of the new week as upper level high pressure becomes stronger overhead and establishes more of a “lid” on the atmosphere.

… Rain Chances Linger …
… Drier Weather Pattern Setting Up for Next Week …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… several westward moving low pressure disturbances extend eastward from our area to the gulf coast eastward into the Florida panhandle. A cold front extends from southeastern Kansas into Oklahoma and then westward over the Texas panhandle and northwestward into southeast Colorado. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are northeasterly.

On the upper air map… a broad ridge, or line, of upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, extends eastward from the Rockies into the Ohio Valley region. As a result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are northeasterly between 30 to 40 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Guidance continues to indicate that a series of atmospheric disturbances will continue to move westward from the gulf coastal areas from the Florida panhandle westward.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will continue in the forecast through the weekend into Monday. Upwards of 1 inch of rainfall is possible, in general, over that time period according to the latest NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance.

A drier weather pattern unfolds with rain chances dropping from the forecast by the middle part of next week as upper level high pressure becomes reestablished and establishes more of a “lid” on the atmosphere.
