AUSTIN / UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS WEATHER
SEVEN DAY WEATHER HEADLINES…
.. Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Chance Continuing Today ..
.. Monitoring the Tropical Cyclone over the Southwestern Gulf of Mexico ..
(1) An upper level low pressure area, currently located over northwest Texas, is resulting in widely scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over south central Texas this morning and will result in widely scattered rain showers and thunderstorms today for our local area.
(2) An upper level high pressure, acting like a “lid” of the atmosphere, will result in a dry and stable late spring/early summer weather pattern beginning late tomorrow through the balance of the week and into the weekend. Rain chances will drop from the forecast locally as temperatures warm with afternoon highs approaching 100 by the weekend.
(3) I continue to monitor the latest NWS/National Hurricane Center guidance regarding the tropical cyclone (now Tropical Storm Cristobal) over the Bay of Campeche. It’s too early to say where this system will end up as it, as predicted, moves northward by late week into the weekend. As a result, I’m not including any effects in the forecast locally at this time. In addition, please remember to disregard “click bait” social media entries of what one atmospheric computer model / model guidance spaghetti plot says. You should really only trust information from the NWS/National Hurricane Center and local NWS offices.
