Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #5

… Happy New Year …
.. Don’t be Surprised if You See a Little Light Snow and Sleet Today ..
A few periods of light snow and sleet are possible today into the early evening as clouds persist and
yet another upper air low pressure disturbance moves eastward and creates atmospheric lift across
our area. Guidance suggests that the more concentrated precipitation should be to our west through
southwest and south (like the San Antonio, New Braunfels areas) with the probability of precipitation
for any given location today into this evening for our IH35 corridor counties and the Austin metro area
in the 20 to 30% range. Nevertheless, I do not expect our high temperatures to get much above freezing
today so a light dusting is possible in some areas. Some icy spots could develop in some areas mainly
on less traveled roadways.. bridges and overpasses to our southwest so keep this mind if you are
planning to be out and around today.
