Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 03 January 2018

… Finally … A Warm Up …
… Clouds Increase By the Weekend …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a surface high pressure area is over south central Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, winds are light and variable.

On the upper air map… a deep trough, or line, of upper air low pressure extends southward from Hudson bay across the eastern two thirds of the USA. A ridge, or line, of upper air high pressure extends north northwestward from northern Mexico through the western USA and the Pacific Northwest. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are northwesterly 110 to 115 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

With the passage of a final upper air low pressure disturbance last evening that resulted in the patchy freezing drizzle and light snow flurries in some areas, clouds have broken overnight with a drier weather pattern over the area over the next few days. Another cold front will weaken as it “backdoors” its way into Texas late tonight into tomorrow but little sensible weather is expected locally.

Clouds will pick up a bit as surface high pressure moves east of the area by tomorrow night into Friday. Moisture will increase enough for more in the way of clouds and for the remote possibility of a few sprinkles Saturday into Sunday ahead of yet another cold front Sunday night.

Sunshine and seasonal temperatures are expected for the first few days of next week.

Have a good Wednesday….
