OBSERVATIONS AND MY LATEST THOUGHTS:
At 12 noon… temperatures have steadied out across the area with Austin City
(Camp Mabry) at 32F.. Austin Bergstrom Intl Airport at 33F.. Jollyville (LCRA Hydromet)
at 31F.. Austin Executive Airport (along the toll road just southeast of Pflugerville) at 32F..
Georgetown at 30F.. Lago Vista at 31F. The LCRA Hydromet indicates some of the coldest
temperatures in areas around Lake Travis where it’s showing upper 20s to near 30F.
Patchy light drizzle or freezing drizzle continues in some areas in the IH35 corridor.. depending
on temperature, of course. NWS Doppler weather radar shows some patches of light freezing
rain or sleet in the areas to our north from Gatesville to Fort Hood and Killeen to near Waco..
this activity is moving east northeastward and will not affect our area. Another small patch of light
freezing drizzle/very (very!!) light freezing rain is occurring over eastern Burnet.. extreme northwest
Travis and southwest Williamson counties.. moving east northeastward.. this will move quickly
over Williamson County in the next hour.
Let’s begin to watch tonight into early Tuesday when the upper air low pressure disturbance
finally moves out of the area. At this time, the NWS/Austin-San Antonio has a 40% probability
of freezing rain in the forecast with lows in the upper 20s…
Bottom line… in the noon hour… so far, so good (for the most part).
This is a borderline situation and a reminder that a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY remains
in effect for Travis.. Williamson.. and Hays Counties.. including the Austin metro area until 6pm.
Everyone needs to continue to monitor this weather event carefully… everyone is responsible for
keeping up with the latest information in case the temperatures end up colder than expected
and the situation turns worse than expected.. stay weather aware. Listen to local media
reports for the latest information.
