… A More Stable Weather Pattern Through Friday …
… Clouds and Rain Chances Reappear for the Weekend …
… Stronger Cold Front Sunday Night …
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a cold front extends south\ward from a surface low over Iowa into northeast Texas to overhead of the south central Texas area then westward into southwest Texas then northwestward into New Mexico. Tropical cyclone Michael is over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. Surface high pressure is situated over and off the central and northern east coast of the USA. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are north northwesterly.
On the upper air map… a eastward moving deep trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is located from central Canada southwestward into the western two thirds of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are southwesterly 55 to 60 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
As the deep upper air low over the western two thirds of the USA moves eastward today, drier and more stable air will continue to overspread our area from the northwest.
This will result in slightly cooler temperatures progressing into the area and that will continue to dominate through late week.
Another stronger cold front will move into the area by late Saturday into Sunday along with the mid and upper level remnants of Pacific tropical cyclone Sergio with rain chances and temperatures cooling further for late in the weekend into next week.
Forecasters at the NWS/National Hurricane Center will be monitoring tropical cyclone Michael, as a dangerous category 4 hurricane, as it continues to move northward through the northeastern Gulf of Mexico toward the Florida panhandle coast around Panama City later today. Damage from the system is expected to be catastrophic in the landfall area. I expect little effect from the system in the state of Texas.
Have a good Wednesday..
