Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Wednesday / 10 July 2019 Update….

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #1
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
1000am CT – Wednesday / 10 July 2019

… NWS/National Hurricane Center Starts Advisories on Gulf of Mexico System …
… Tropical Storm Watch Posted for Parts of Louisiana Coast …
… Additional Tropical Storm/Hurricane Watches and/or Warnings Likely for the Upper Texas Coast and
Other Parts of Louisiana Coast By Later Today/Tonight …

Bottom Line… a center of a hurricane is now forecast, by the NHC, to make landfall on the southwestern
Louisiana coast (around or just east of Lake Charles) by early in the weekend. Remember, though, that tropical
cyclones are not just a “center point,” they cover a large area. As a result, all interests from the
upper Texas coast eastward to the Mississippi/Alabama coasts are STRONGLY advised to increase
their weather awareness and listen from the latest information from the NWS/National Hurricane
Center (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/).

This system should remain well east of the IH35 corridor.. based on the latest NWS/National Hurricane
Center forecast. As a result of this forecast track, I do not expect much sensible affect on south central Texas
weather with a dry and stable summer weather pattern with afternoon highs at or above average for Friday through
the weekend and into next week.

I will continue to keep you advised in case of changes in this system…
