Tuesday / 23 October 2018 Update….

Updated 915am CT – Tuesday / 23 October 2018

… Rain and Below Average Temperatures Continue …
… Sunshine Returns Late Week into the Weekend …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a stationary front extends westward from the Florida straits into the southern Gulf of Mexico where it becomes a warm front and continues into a persistent surface low pressure area over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico east of Corpus Christi and Brownsville. A surface high is situated from eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas eastward through the Tennessee Valley. Another southward moving cold front extends westward from the Ohio Valley region into southern Kansas the northwestward as a stationary front through Colorado.. Wyoming and Montana.
As a result of this surface weather pattern, the surface winds are light north northeasterly.

On the upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is located from east of Hudson Bay to over the eastern third of the USA. A set of strong upper level lows are over the western USA.. one over northwestern Utah and southern Idaho and the other over extreme southern California. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are west southwesterly 40 to 45 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Cooler surface based air.. only several thousand feet thick.. is being overridden by low, mid and high level moisture resulting in a cloudy weather pattern. Passing upper air disturbances, being ejected by the counterclockwise rotating upper level lows out west, will result in rain chances over the next two days before the system moves east of the area and a drier weather pattern develops by late in the week and through next weekend.

With clouds in place, temperatures will continue to be below seasonal averages.

NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests an average of 1 to 2 inches of rain for our local area over the next seven day period with isolated heavier totals possible especially to the southwest through south and southeast of the area.

Have a good Tuesday..
