Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

TK’s Weather Update for Wednesday / 09 August 2017 ….

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 09 August 2017

.. A More Stable Air Mass with More Sunshine and Warmer Temperatures ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a weakening stationary front extends from Georgia through Alabama and Mississippi across central Louisiana then into southeastern Texas to along the Texas coast to just south of Laredo. Eastward moving high pressure, north of the front, is centered over Illinois and Indiana. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light north northeasterly.

Upper air map… a broad trough, or line, of upper level low pressure trough (line of low pressure) extends southward from Canada over the eastern 2/3rd of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are northwesterly about 10 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Upper level high pressure is building back overhead late week into the weekend with clouds thinning and sunshine increasing. Temperatures will be increasing back to near or above seasonal averages.

There are some indications that a southward moving cold front will move into northern Texas by the middle part of next week. At this point, I will hold off on any rain chances locally until there is a bit more agreement in the computer model guidance.

Have a good Wednesday….
