TK’s Weather Update for Monday / 31 July 2017 ….

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 31 July 2017

.. A Typical Dry Summer Weather Pattern Continues Today ..
.. Rain Chances Increase Mid and Late Week into the Weekend ..

On the Weather Map…
Surface map… a weakening cold front extends northeastward from southwest Texas to the Rio Grande River near Del Rio then to Corpus Christi and into the northwest Gulf of Mexico. High pressure, northeast of the front, is located over northern Illinois. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are east northeasterly.

Upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure trough (line of low pressure) is over the eastern half of the country. An upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, is centered over New Mexico. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are light northerly.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

In the wake of the weak cold front that “backdoored” (coming in from the northeast) its way over area yesterday, slightly drier air has settled over the area.

Even with that, I expect temperatures to be well above average today and tomorrow with highs around 100 degrees.

By late Tuesday night into Wednesday, a series of upper level low pressure disturbances, coming in on counterclockwise upper air flow on the west side of that upper air trough over the eastern half of the country, will result in increased cloud cover and an increased precipitation chance through the balance of the week into next weekend. Current NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests one to one and a half inches of rain for the period. Temperatures will come back to seasonal levels.. even a little below.. with the additional clouds and precipitation chances.

It looks like clouds and rain chances will decrease by the first part of next week.

Have a good Monday….
