.. Rain Chances Continue On and Off Through the Weekend ..
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a southward drifting cold front extends west southwestward from middle Tennessee into central Arkansas and the ArkLaTex region through north Texas before ending up over southwestern Texas near El Paso. High pressure is located over the southeastern USA and Florida and eastward over the western Atlantic Ocean. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are light and variable.
Upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure trough (line of low pressure) is over the eastern 2/3rd of the USA. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over south central Texas are west southwesterly 20 to 30 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
A series of upper level low pressure disturbances, coming in on counterclockwise upper air flow on the west side of that upper air trough over the eastern 2/3rds of the country, will continue to result in continued cloud cover and precipitation chances. Current NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests another couple of inches of rain over the next 24 to 48 hours locally. Temperatures will be closer to even below seasonal levels through Wednesday with the additional clouds and precipitation chances.
As upper level high pressure builds back overhead by late week into the weekend with rain chances decreasing, clouds thinning and sunshine increasing. Temperatures will be increasing back to near seasonal averages.
