TK’s Weather Discussion (Fri/24Aug2012)

Updated 130pm CDT Friday / 24 August 2012

… Lots of Sunshine over the Next Seven Days ….
… Near to Slightly Above Average Temperatures Expected to Continue ….

On this Friday… surface high pressure is over the southeastern USA with a trough.. or line.. of low pressure southward from southeastern Colorado and western Kansas into New Mexico and west Texas. As a result of this surface pattern, a southerly surface wind is prevailing across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a upper high pressure ridge, acting like a lid on the atmosphere, is over Texas and the southwestern plains states with a deeper trough.. or line.. of upper level low pressure extends southward from the Great Lakes states southward over the eastern half of the USA.  As a result of the upper air wind flow, the upper level winds are light to moderate west northwesterly over our area.

A mostly dry and stable weather pattern is expected to continue across the area over the next seven days; I do not expect any frontal passages/air mass changes. Upper level high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, will continue to be centered over Texas. As a result of the associated sinking air in the atmosphere, the rain chances locally are very slim over the next seven days.

Current forecasts suggest that tropical cyclone Isaac.. on its current forecast track.. will remain well east of the area (into the southeastern USA) and the impact locally will be very limited.

Temperatures should continue to be near or even slightly above seasonal averages.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will see a partly cloudy sky with lows in the 70s with a southerly wind. For tomorrow, it’ll be partly cloudy with highs in the 90s with a southerly wind.

Have a good Friday night and Saturday…
