Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

TK’s Weather Discussion….

Updated 845am CT – Friday / 4 April 2014

…. Cooler Temperatures ….
…. Overrunning Clouds and Rain for Our Weekend ….
…. Sunshine Returning for Early Next Week ….

On this Friday morning…. surface high pressure /1022mb/ is building southward into Texas in the wake of the cold front that passed the area around 1 to 2 am this morning. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our local surface winds are northerly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a strong area of upper level low pressure is over the western Great Lakes. As a result of this upper air wind pattern, the upper level winds over south central Texas and the Austin metro area about 18,000 feet above the ground are southwesterly at 45 to 55 mph.

In the wake of our early morning cold front, surface high pressure.. marked by drier and cooler air.. is settling southward across our area.

However, a more active upper air pattern will eject several disturbances over the area back over the cooler air by tonight through the weekend which will return overrunning cloud cover and a chance of rain, rain showers and even a few thunderstorms for Saturday into Sunday.

It looks like another cold front will move through the area by early next Monday with clearing skies and drier air once again moving into the area for Monday through Wednesday of next week.

Regarding my forecast, my local forecast confidence: My forecast confidence is very high for today into tonight. My forecast confidence falls to medium to high (reference rain chances) by Saturday into Sunday. My forecast rises back to high to very high for the early part of next week.

Have a good Friday…
