Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #19… FINAL
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
945am CT – Thursday / 14 May 2015
Rain chances continue in our forecast for the IH35 corridor forecast but rainfall
is not expected to be excessive and thunderstorms are not expected to be severe.
However, please keep in mind…
(1) Brief heavy rain that might occur with any thunderstorm development.. especially
in areas where rainfall totals of 5 to 10 inches have occurred over the last eight days..
can cause flooding problems pretty quickly.
(2) Deadly cloud-to-ground lightning will accompany any thunderstorm development..
In short, let’s remain weather aware over the coming days.
In order to keep this event series of updates from running on and on, this will be
my last statement as it regards this potential heavy rainfall event.
…. Looking Ahead ….
On average, based upon NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance, another couple
inches of rain is possible locally from 7am tonight through 7am next Thursday.
Rain chances look to be their highest late Saturday through next Monday into
Tuesday as upper air disturbances combine with an approaching cold front.. as well
as toward the latter part of next week as another weather system approaches.
