TK’s Special Briefing….

Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #6
Prepared by Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel (www.troykimmelweather.com)

.. Weather Update #5 ..

…. Winter Storm Warnings Canceled for the Austin area/IH35 Corridor but Just
Replaced with a Winter Weather Advisory until 9am Tuesday….
…. Winter Storm Warnings Downgraded to Winter Weather Advisories (for Mixed
Winter Precipitation) for the Texas Hill Country until 9am Tuesday ….

A little late getting to you in reference to the NWS cancellation of the warning, but it
appears that this really has everything to do with the surface temperatures and
the fact that it may not get as cold  (surface air)  as I thought it would earlier.

A wave of precipitation.. with some mixed sleet.. is moving into the area from the
west southwest currently.

With another disturbance or two to the west.. we’ll continue to see precipitation
chances through Monday night into Tuesday with some mixed winter precipitation
expected.  The temperature profile will support a rain/sleet mix over the next 24 to
30 hours.. then a little better chance of snow flurries by tomorrow night into early
Tuesday. We’re going to be right on the line with this system, so this is something
we need to monitor closely since we could end up back in a mess quickly
if the upper air system forecast track changes or the air temperature profile in the
at atmosphere is colder than I currently expect.

Again… to sum up… a winter weather advisory (as defined below) is in effect for
Williamson.. Travis.. Hays and Comal Counties and counties westward across the
Hill Country until 9am Tuesday morning.

Winter Weather Advisory:
This is issued for a combination of snow, sleet, and/or freezing rain. Advisories, in general,
are issued for weather conditions that are expected to cause inconveniences and may be
hazardous, These situations are normally not life threatening if caution is exercised.

Another statement later today..
