… Rain Chances Continue For Late Week into the Weekend …
… A Dry and More Stable Weather Pattern for Much of Next Week …
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a weak cold front extends southwestward from a low over the Missouri bootheel through central Arkansas into northeast Texas into a surface low near Abilene, TX then into southwestern Texas and then northward into south central New Mexico. Surface high pressure is located to our east over the southeastern USA with another high north of the front over the Rockies. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are southerly.
On the upper air map… an upper level low pressure area extends southward from Hudson Bay into the eastern half of the USA as upper level high pressure settles back westward over Nevada. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are northeasterly about 10 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
Our atmosphere will grow a bit more unstable as an upper disturbance in the Rockies and plains is expected to drop southward into Texas by tomorrow into this coming weekend. As a result, widely scattered to scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected for the Austin metro area and the IH35 corridor. Heaviest and most widespread rains are expected to remain to our distant northwest through north. The lightning risk will be an issue where ever thunderstorms develop. The latest guidance, having continued to trend downward, is now suggesting an average 1/2 to 1 inch of rainfall over the next seven day period.
Along with increased cloud coverage and the reduced rain and thunderstorm chances, temperatures will be near for late week into the weekend.
A drier and more stable weather develops once again, with rain chances dropping from the forecast, beginning Monday and continuing for much of next week.
Have a good Thursday..
