NWS Issues New WINTER STORM WARNING for Weekend into Next Week; PREPARE NOW!! (3p, Fr/12Feb2021)

ALL / Austin, Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #7
Prepared by UT University/Incident Response Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
330pm CT – Friday / 12 February 2021

… A WINTER STORM WARNING.. THE HIGHEST WINTER RISK WARNING AVAILABLE TO THE NWS.. HAS JUST BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL OF SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS.. INCLUDING THE AUSTIN METRO AREA AND THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS FROM 6AM TOMORROW (SATURDAY) UNTIL 12 NOON MONDAY …

… Extended Significant Winter Storm Expected over the Weekend into Next Week …
… Bitterly Cold Temperatures on the Way …

First My Observations/Thoughts…
A series of upper level low pressure storm systems will traverse our area west-to-east
over the coming days; as each one passes, additional arctic cold air will be dislodged from
the plains and allowed to drop into Texas. As each disturbance approaches and moves
by. we’ll see wintry precipitation move overhead with additional ice and/or snow
accumulations likely. There are three periods I’m watching.. (1) tomorrow (Saturday) into
tomorrow night.. (2) Sunday Afternoon, Sunday Night into Midday Monday which is expected
to have the greatest impact.. and (3) Next Wednesday into Wednesday night.  In addition to
the wintry weather, between Sunday Afternoon through next Tuesday, bitterly cold
temperatures will persist resulting in a DANGEROUS risk to pets/livestock/animals.. pipes..
plants/vegetation as well as to peopleESPECIALLY DANGEROUS for the homeless population of
Austin  and Travis County. Low temperatures could reach the single digits to lower teens in the
outlying and low lying areas

I’m continuing to monitor..
