Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Monday / 17 September 2018 Update….

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 17 September 2018

… A More Stable Weather Pattern To Start the New Week …
… Afternoon / Evening Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Increase Late Week …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… weak high pressure continues over the Mississippi River Valley southwestward into Texas. A trough, or line, of surface low pressure extends from eastern Colorado southward into New Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are light and variable or light south southeasterly.

On the upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is moving slowly eastward from western Canada into the Pacific northwest and inter mountain west. Upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, continues over the northwestern Mexico into north Texas and Oklahoma. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are northerly 20 to 25 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

A drier and more stable late summer weather pattern is prevailing across Texas as we start out a new week; as a result, we’ll see increased sunshine, warmer temperatures as well as rain chances dropping from the forecast.

By late week, another area of clouds and rain showers and thunderstorms will move northwestward from the Gulf of Mexico and into south Texas. We’ll see increased clouds as well as a better chance of mainly late afternoon and early evening rain showers and thunderstorms into the weekend.

Have a good Monday..
