Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #2
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
245pm CT – Friday / 08 February 2019

.. NWS Austin-San Antonio Has Issued a Winter Weather Advisory
for Travis and Williamson Counties and Counties Westward Until 6pm ..

.. Patchy Sprinkles/Light Sleet/Snow Pellets Being Reported Around Area ..
.. Surface Temperatures Have Risen into the mid to Upper 30s in Most Areas ..

At 2pm, Austin Bergstrom International Airport is 39 F, Camp Mabry
is 37 F, Austin Executive Airport (Pflugerville) is 34 F, Rusty Allen Airport
in Lago Vista is 34 F and Georgetown Airport is 33 F.

My thoughts haven’t changed much.. temperatures are now well above freezing
in the Austin metro area and the sleet and snow pellets are largely melting as
they are falling. Little in the way of impacts has been noted although some
slushy spots have been reported on some of the outlying bridges and overpasses
in parts of Williamson County (especially in the vicinity of sleet/snow pellet
showers where the precipitation is a little heavier).

One other note.. we have seen and will probably continue to see a few intracloud
and cloud-to-cloud lightning strikes around the heavier showers. As a result, you
may hear a little thunder (as weird as it is when you have temperatures in the 30s!).

While spotty precipitation will continue tonight into early tomorrow, again, I expect
little in the way of impacts.

I’ll continue to monitor..
