Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Friday / 28 September 2018 Update….

Updated 915am CT – Friday / 28 September 2018

… Humidity Returns Today into Tonight …
… Warmer with Lower Rain Chances Tonight Through the Weekend …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a weakening stationary front extends southwestward out of the southeastern USA into southern Mississippi.. southern Louisiana.. and into the extreme northwestern Gulf of Mexico (just off the Texas coast) to near Brownsville, TX. A southward moving cold front extends west southwestward from northern Illinois into central Kansas into a low over northeastern Colorado. Another surface low is over northeastern New Mexico and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles with a trough, or line, of surface low pressure extending southward into southwest Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are light east southeasterly.

On the upper air map… a deep trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is moving slowly eastward from the western parts of Hudson Bay in Canada southward into the eastern plains states. Another upper level low pressure area is well off the central and northern California coast over the Pacific Ocean. An upper level high is over northwestern Mexico. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are westerly 30 to 40 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

As the upper level low pressure trough, over the eastern plains states, continues to move eastward into the Mississippi Valley. The front, that it pushed southward into Texas, will weaken over the next 24 hours over the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. A warming trend returns today with an increase in cloud cover.

I expect a mostly cloudy sky with rain chances increasing by tonight and tomorrow and continuing through our upcoming weekend and into next week.

NWS/Weather Prediction Center estimates that we’ll see, on average, around 1/2 inch of rain during the next seven day period with isolated heavier totals.

Have a good Friday..
