Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Wednesday / 25 October 2017

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern Continues ..
.. Another Cold Front Passes Early Friday ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a surface high pressure area continues to move out of the Rockies southeastward into Texas. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are west northwesterly.

On the upper air map… a dynamic deep trough, or line, of upper air low pressure stretches south southeastward from Hudson Bay across the Great Lakes southward to the lower Mississippi Valley and the southeastern USA. An area of upper level high pressure is located over California and northwestern Mexico. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are northwesterly 40 to 45 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Abundant sunshine today through the latter part of the week. Temperatures will turn a bit warmer today through tomorrow.

Another stronger cold front, in association with a passing upper air low pressure disturbance, will cross Texas early on Friday.

Under a clear sky, cooler and drier air will once again dominate for the upcoming weekend with the coolest air so far for the fall season. Overnight lows for Friday night and Saturday night will reach the 30s in most areas away from urban areas.

Have a good Wednesday….

.. A Dry Stable Weather Pattern Continues in the Wake of Our Overnight Front ..
.. Slim Rain Chances Friday As Another Front Passes ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a surface high pressure area is moving out of the Rockies southeastward into Texas in the wake our overnight cold front that is now moving off the Texas coast into the northwest Gulf of Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are north northwesterly.

On the upper air map… a deep trough, or line, of upper air low pressure stretches south southeastward from Hudson Bay across the Great Lakes southward to the lower Mississippi Valley. An area of upper level high pressure is located over California and northwestern Mexico. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are northwesterly 50 to 60 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Another cold front moved through the area about midnight. Plenty of sunshine will prevail today and through the latter part of the week. Cooler temperatures today and tomorrow will warm a bit with southwesterly surface winds by Thursday.

Another stronger cold front, in association with a passing upper air low pressure disturbance, will cross Texas on Friday. A few sprinkles are possible as the system passes but the chance will remain quite slim.

Under a mostly clear sky, cooler and drier air will once again dominate for the upcoming weekend with the coolest air so far for the fall season.

Have a good Tuesday….
