WEATHER HAZARDS THROUGH 12 MIDNIGHT TONIGHT…

AUSTIN / UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS WEATHER
SEVEN DAY WEATHER HEADLINES…

(1) An upper level storm system, currently moving east northeast from the southwestern USA, will cross the southern plains over the next 24 hours and, as a result, our atmosphere is growing more moist and unstable; Clouds have increased and thickened. As the initial upper air disturbance moves through, we’ll see slim rain chances return to our forecast by this afternoon.

(2) As the earlier disturbance moves over Texas today into tonight, another strong upper level low over the Pacific Ocean will settle into place over the eastern Pacific Ocean and the southwestern USA and will move east northeastward for the end of the week into the weekend with better rain and perhaps even thunderstorm chances. As this second upper level low pressure storm system moves by, a stronger surface cold front will move through the area during the morning hours on Friday. Because the front may outpace the upper level low, we may keep rain and thunderstorm chances going on back in the cooler air for most of the afternoon Friday before rain chances decrease and clouds break early Friday night.

(3) A drier and more stable weather pattern with temperatures falling back to below season averages is likely for our upcoming weekend.

(4) Southerly surface winds and increased moisture, with increased clouds and humidity, will be seen for the first part of next week as another cold front approaches.
