Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated Monday Afternoon / 2 January 2012…

Updated  130pm Mon / 2 Jan 2012

…. Sunshine and Clear Skies Prevail ….
…. A Weak Dry Cold Front Due Wednesday Morning ….

On this Monday… a dome of surface high pressure area is located over the Rockies and the plains states southward into Texas. As a result of this surface pressure pattern, surface winds are north northeasterly across our area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a deep trough.. or line.. of upper level low pressure extends southward from the Great Lakes states into the southeastern part of the country with a ridge of upper level high pressure over the western third of the USA. As a result of this pressure pattern, the upper air winds over Texas continue moderate northwesterly across our area.

With surface high pressure prevailing, a dry and more stable surface weather pattern continues over the area with a clear or mostly clear sky expected over the next few days.

With surface high pressure moving east of the area by late tonight into Tuesday, a southerly wind will return. Low level moisture return, however, will be limited before the next cold front moves southeastward across the area on Wednesday morning.

The weather pattern will continue mid and late week into the weekend.

Another cold front.. again, a dry one.. is expected late Saturday night into Sunday morning.

My forecast confidence through this week and into next weekend is high (the only question being the timing of the individual cold frontal passages).

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will be clear. Lows in the 30s. North northeasterly wind becoming light. For tomorrow, sunshine. Highs will make it into the 60s with a southerly wind returning and increasing.

Have a good Monday night and Tuesday…
