TK’s Weather Discussion (Tues/18Sep2012)

Updated 930am CDT Tuesday / 18 September 2012

… After A Few Rain Showers Today, A Dry and Stable Weather Pattern …
… Another Weak Cold Front Due by the Weekend …
… No Rain Expected over the Next Seven Days …

On this Tuesday… a cold front is moving southeastward through Texas with high pressure building southward.. from Colorado and Kansas.. in the wake of the front. As a result of this surface pattern, a light northerly surface wind is picking up and prevailing across the area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a deepening trough. or line.. of upper air low pressure continues to move slowly eastward from the Great Lakes into the lower Mississippi Valley. As a result of this upper air wind flow, our upper level winds are northerly.

As the upper level trough over the Mississippi Valley deepens, it is increasing our northerly wind aloft and this is supporting the southeastward moving cold front through Texas. A few rain showers and thunderstorms have developed in association with the front and an associated upper air low pressure disturbance. This precipitation should be short lived and quickly move out of the area by afternoon as the front moves southeastward out of the area.

The dry weather pattern will prevail in the wake of the front and continue through mid into late week before yet another cold front moves into Texas from the north by Saturday into Sunday. This system, as well, looks dry with plenty of sunshine expected for the upcoming weekend.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will see a partly cloudy sky with lows in the upper 50s to near 60 with a northerly wind. For tomorrow, it’ll be mostly sunny with highs in the 80s with a northerly wind.

Have a good Tuesday night and Wednesday…
