Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

TK’s Weather Discussion (Fri/21Sep2012)

Updated 930am CDT Friday / 21 September 2012

A Dry and Stable Weather Pattern …
No Rain Expected over the Next Seven Days …

On this Friday… high pressure.. centered from northeastern USA southwestward into the lower Mississippi Valley and into southeast Texas and the northwestern Gulf of Mexico.. prevails. A stationary front extends from the Ohio Valley into western Arkansas into central Oklahoma across the Texas panhandle into central New Mexico. As a result of this surface pattern, a southerly surface wind prevails across the area.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere, a trough. or line.. of upper air low pressure continues over the eastern half of the USA. As a result of this upper air wind flow, our upper level winds are northwesterly.

High pressure has moved east of the area with a well established south southeasterly surface wind continuing. Enough low level moisture has returned for late night and early morning low cloudiness over the next few days

This current stable and dry weather pattern will continue through the upcoming weekend and into next week. A weak cold front will try to move into the area.. with a brief wind shift.. on Sunday but the effects are expected to be minimal.

Longer range computer models are suggesting an increase of moisture across Texas by the end of next week as moisture gets drawn our way from across Mexico as a result of a forecast Pacific tropical weather system. At this point, I’ll increase clouds a bit but will not include any mention of rain until I gain more confidence in the weather situation and its ability to produce rain in Texas.

For Austin and south central Texas… tonight will see a mostly clear sky with lows in the in the 60s with a south southeasterly wind. For tomorrow, it’ll be mostly sunny after some morning low clouds with highs in the 80s to near 90 with a south southeasterly wind.

Have a good Friday night and Saturday…
