… A Stationary Front Overhead with Some Thunderstorm Chances Today ..
… Otherwise, A Dry and Stable Summertime Weather Pattern Continues …
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a cold front extends south southwestward from a surface low near Chicago, IL to the Missouri bootheel into northwestern Louisiana where it becomes a stationary front across south central Texas to the Rio Grande near Del Rio then west northwestward to near El Paso and into southwestern New Mexico. North of the front, surface high pressure is located from eastern Colorado northward into eastern Montana. To our distant east, another surface high is over Florida and the southeastern USA. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are variable due to the proximity of the stationary front.
On the upper air map… a trough, or line, of upper level low pressure area extends southward from the Great Lakes into the Tennessee Valley with another southwest-to-northeast oriented trough of low pressure over the Pacific northwestern USA. General upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, continues over the southern USA with the main upper level high pressure center over west Texas and New Mexico. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are northeasterly 20 to 25 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
The strongest part of the upper level high pressure area has shifted a little more westward today as the upper level low from the Great Lakes into the Tennessee Valley deepens a bit. The cold front, as predicted, has moved overhead of south central Texas where it has now turned stationary and is beginning to weaken. As a result, I will maintain relatively slim rain and thunderstorm chances today and early tonight. Based on the latest guidance, any rainfall looks to average 1/10th inch or less.
Upper level high pressure will restrengthen overhead for the middle and latter part of the week through next weekend and early next week with a dry and stable late summer weather pattern continuing.
Have a good Tuesday..
