Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 05 March 2018

… A Cold Front with Scattered Thunderstorms Today …
… Drier and More Stable For Much of the Remainder of the Week …
… Another Disturbance and Cold Front Late Friday into Saturday …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a developing surface low is over northeastern Kansas and southeastern Nebraska with a cold front extending south southwestward into northwestern Oklahoma and northern and western Texas and northern Mexico. A northeastward moving warm front extends from the surface low southeastward into eastern Oklahoma and the ArkLaTex region into southeastern Louisiana. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds are southerly.

On the upper air map… a northwest-to-southeast (negatively) tilted trough, or line, of low pressure is centered over western South Dakota. As a result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are westerly 60 to 70 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

The cold front, to our northwest, is moving southeastward and will cross the IH35 corridor by early afternoon today. In advance of the front, atmospheric lift will result in scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. As cooler and more stable air moves into our area in the wake of the front, we’ll see rain chances and clouds decrease by mid to late afternoon.

The drier and more stable weather pattern will prevail tonight through early Friday before another upper air low pressure disturbance and associated cold front move through the area by late Friday into Saturday.

Drier and cooler air will, once again, move into the area by Saturday night into Sunday.

Over the next seven days, according to guidance from the NWS/Weather Prediction Center, rainfall over the IH35 corridor will average 1/4 inch or less.

Have a good Monday..
