Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 09 October 2017

.. Strong Cold Front Tonight with Scattered Rain Showers/Thunderstorms ..
.. Much Cooler Temperatures in Store ..

On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… surface high pressure is over western Tennessee. A strong cold front extends southwestward from northern Missouri into southern Kansas into a surface low over western Oklahoma and the cold front extends westward through the Texas panhandle into northern New Mexico into Arizona. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds across south central Texas are southerly.

Upper air map… upper level high pressure is over the USA eastern seaboard and the western Atlantic Ocean. A deep trough, or line, of upper level low pressure extends from Hudson Bay southwestward to the four corners region. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our area are west southwesterly 50 to 60 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

In advance of our cold front tonight, we’ll see sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures with high temperature records for October 09 threatened for both Camp Mabry as well as Austin Bergstrom International Airport.

The cold front will be moving through Texas by midnight into the predawn hours with cooler temperatures following its passage through the area. As it moves through the area, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are possible.

Temperatures are expected to fall to below seasonal averages as sunshine returns for tomorrow through Wednesday and Thursday. A few clouds reappear with warmer temperatures (temperatures back to slightly above seasonal averages) for the latter part of the week through next week.

Have a good Monday….
