Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Statement #2
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel

…. Colder Air Moving In Today ….
…. Another Winter Weather Potential Friday.. Friday Night into Saturday
But Appears Now to Mainly be over the Texas Hill Country ….
SYNOPTIC/FORECAST REASONING:
With the passage of an upper air low pressure disturbance today to our north,
much colder surface based air will settle southward across Texas today in advance
of a period of overrunning clouds Friday.. Friday night and into the weekend.
The overrunning is when moisture rides up and over colder surface based air
and clouds will an increase with scattered patches of light precipitation areawide
for tomorrow.. tomorrow night and into the weekend.
Across south central Texas, surface high temperatures are expected to be to be only
in the 45 to 50F degree range today with below freezing temperatures tonight; with
clouds and the possibility of light precipitation, temperatures will remain in the 30s
all day tomorrow then fall back to near freezing Friday night. Temperatures will
slowly warm back into the 40s on Saturday as clouds and precipitation persist.
While there is still uncertainty regarding the timing and precipitation types, this still
looks to me to be one of those borderline situations with the some possibility of
mixed freezing and/or frozen precipitation but mainly over the Texas Hill Country
to our west northwest. This could include the higher elevation areas of western
Hays.. Travis and Williamson counties
In any case, everyone should remain weather aware.
I’ll issue updates as necessary.
