Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Statement #1
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
535pm CT – Wednesday / 25 February 2015
…. Another Stronger Cold Front Due Tomorrow ….
…. Another Winter Weather Potential Friday.. Friday Night into Saturday ….
SYNOPTIC/FORECAST REASONING:
After a day of sunshine and warmer than expected highs today, another stronger
cold front accompanied by breezy to windy conditions is due tomorrow.
Much colder surface based air will settle southward across Texas in advance of
a series of upper air disturbances due Friday.. Friday night and into the weekend.
In advance of the upper air system, overrunning will result in moisture riding up
and over colder surface based air and clouds will increase with precipitation
expected to develop areawide for Friday.. Friday night and into the weekend as
the individual upper air disturbances cross overhead creating atmospheric lift.
After highs today of 62F at both Austin City (Camp Mabry) and at Austin
Bergstrom International Airport, surface temperatures are expected to be to be
only in the 45 to 50F degree range tomorrow with below freezing temperatures
tomorrow night; temperatures will remain in the 30s all day Friday then fall back
to near freezing Friday night. Temperatures will slowly warm back into the 40s
Saturday as clouds and precipitation persist.
There is still considerable uncertainty regarding the timing and amounts of
precipitation along with precipitation types. It looks to me to be, again, one of those
borderline situations with the some possibility of mixed freezing and/or frozen
precipitation.
Please remain weather aware.
I’ll issue a more indepth discussion tomorrow.
