Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

TK’s Weather Discussion….

Updated 845am CT – Wednesday / 14 May 2014

…. Return to Sunshine ….
…. A Warming Trend Getting Underway Late Week into the Weekend ….

On this Wednesday morning…. surface high pressure is over Wyoming.. Colorado and New Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our local surface winds are north northwesterly.

In the upper levels of the atmosphere… a deep counterclockwise rotating trough, or line, of upper air low pressure extends from Minnesota southward into Texas and northern Mexico. The upper level winds over south central Texas and the Austin metro area about 18,000 feet above the ground, are west northwesterly 60 to 70 mph.

The surface cold front has now moved eastward into the lower Mississippi Valley and the axis of the associated upper level disturbance is now overhead and moving eastward. As a result, a drier and more stable weather pattern will prevail with a clearing sky and cooler temperatures, especially at night, through the end of the week.

The surface high pressure.. out to our northwest right now.. will move east of the area by Friday allowing for a return southerly surface wind into the weekend with a few clouds returning.

With the return to southerly surface winds, a warming trend will get underway late week into the weekend.

The dry weather pattern will continue into the middle part of next week.

Regarding my forecast, my local forecast confidence: My forecast confidence is high to very high over the next seven day period.

Have a good Wednesday…
