… Upper Air Low Pressure Storm System Moving Overhead Today …
… Another Cold Front With Rain Chances Monday …
… Unseasonably Cool Temperatures Over Next Seven Day Period …
On the Weather Map…
On the surface map… a cold front is well south southeast of the Austin area. It extends westward from the Florida panhandle to along the Louisiana and Texas coasts then onshore near Corpus Christi and into northeastern Mexico. North of the front, surface high pressure is located from Oklahoma and Kansas north northwestward into Canada. As a result of this surface weather pattern, the surface winds are northerly.
On the upper air map… a broad and deep trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is located from southwest of Hudson Bay to Minnesota and into the Lone Star State. Within this deep and broad trough, another trough, or line, of upper level low pressure extends southwestward from Utah through southern California and the eastern Pacific. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are westerly 70 to 80 mph.
What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…
As the upper air trough overhead now moves east of Texas, we’ll continue to reinforce the southward movement of cooler air with breezy northerly winds. Rain chances will decrease quickly today in the wake of the front, clouds will likely linger into the weekend.
Associated with yet another upper level low pressure disturbance, another stronger cold front with increased rain chances will approach the area late Sunday into Sunday night and then finally moves across the area Monday into Monday night.
Clouds will break Monday night with a return to sunshine for Tuesday into Thursday with well below average temperatures. Hill country areas and even the northern parts of the IH35 corridor could see freezing temperatures for overnight lows Tuesday night.
Based on NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance, south central Texas can expect, on average, 1/2 inch of rain over the next seven day period.
Have a good Friday..
