Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Monday / 15 October 2018 Update….

Updated 915am CT – Monday / 15 October 2018

… Clouds and Rain Continue in an Overrunning Pattern …
… Well Below Average Temperatures Continue for the Seven Day Period Ahead …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a strong cold front extends southward from a surface low over the eastern Great Lakes into the Tennessee Valley and northern Louisiana to onshore along the Texas coast then into northeastern Mexico. High pressure, north of the front, is centered over eastern Colorado, eastern Kansas and southwestern Nebraska. As a result of this surface weather pattern, in the wake of the cold front overnight, our surface winds over south central Texas are gusty north northwesterly.

On the upper air map… a slowly eastward moving deep broad trough, or line, of upper level low pressure is located from southern Canada and the western Great Lakes southwestward into southern California. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are southwesterly around 50 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

In the wake of the strong overnight cold front, the much cooler surface air.. only several thousand feet thick.. is being overridden by low and mid level moisture resulting in a chilly, cloudy and wet (overrunning) weather pattern persisting through much of 7 day forecast period.

Temperatures will be well below seasonal averages.

NWS/Weather Prediction Center guidance suggests an average of 2 to 4 inches of rain for our local area over the next seven day period with isolated heavier totals possible.

Have a good Monday..
