Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

… Temperatures Continue Above Seasonal Averages …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… a weakening stationary front extends westward across the Gulf of Mexico into south Texas around Corpus Christi. Another weakening cold front is moving southeastward from middle Tennessee into northern Louisiana and northeast Texas. Surface high pressure, north of the front, extends from Iowa southwestward into northern New Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are light and variable.

On the upper air map… a broad ridge, or line, of upper air high pressure, acting like a “lid” on the atmosphere, is centered over the desert southwestern USA. An unseasonably strong and deep area of upper level low pressure area extends southward from the Great Lakes into the southeastern USA and northern Florida. As a result of this upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are northerly about 25 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

The weak and diffuse stationary front, to our distant south, will continue to wash out over the next day or so as a secondary front to our northeast weakens as well.

Temperatures will continue be above to well above climatological averages through the upcoming weekend.

NWS guidance suggests that another cold front will move southward into Texas by Sunday into Monday. I will introduce very slim rain chances for early next week as the front produces atmospheric lift and moves into a more unstable and sufficiently moist air mass.

Have a good Wednesday..
