Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

Updated 915am CT – Tuesday / 15 May 2018

… A Stable Summer Like Weather Pattern Prevails …
… No Cold Frontal Passages Expected Over the Next Seven Days …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… high pressure is centered to our east over the southeastern USA into the northwestern Gulf of Mexico. Another high pressure area is located over Colorado and Wyoming. A stationary front extends from eastern Kansas into the northwestern Texas panhandle into northeastern New Mexico. A trough, or line, of surface low pressure extends south southwestward from a surface low along the front over the northwestern Texas panhandle through west Texas and eastern New Mexico into northern Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are south southeasterly.

On the upper air map… an upper level low is east of Hudson Bay with another one over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. A trough, or line, of low pressure extends westward from Nevada to offshore the northern coast of California. As a result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are westerly at 30 to 40 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Even with the return of low level moisture, I don’t see much of a chance of rain over the next seven day period as the result of a stable summer like weather pattern in place.

Far to the east, a disturbed area of weather is located over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico but it is forecast to move more northward toward the Florida panhandle. As a result, there will be little effect on our local weather.

With the sunshine, afternoon high temperatures will warm just a bit over the next day or so with temperatures falling back a few degrees over the weekend into early next week although the afternoon high temperatures will remain above seasonal averages.

Have a good Tuesday..
