Forecasting Austin and South Central Texas Weather Since 1984

… A Stable Summer Like Weather Pattern Prevails …
… No Cold Frontal Passages Expected Over the Next Seven Days …

On the Weather Map…

On the surface map… high pressure is centered to our east over the Tennessee Valley and the southern Mississippi Valley. Another high pressure area is located over Colorado. A trough, or line, of surface low pressure extends from eastern Colorado and western Kansas south southwestward through west Texas and extreme eastern New Mexico into northern Mexico. As a result of this surface weather pattern, our surface winds over south central Texas are south southeasterly.

On the upper air map… a trough, or line, of low pressure extends southwestward from the Dakotas southwestward into Nevada. As a result of the upper air weather pattern, the 30,000 foot winds over our local area are west southwesterly and fairly light at speeds less than 25 mph.

What I am Seeing As I Look Ahead…

Even with the return of low level moisture, I don’t see much of a chance of rain over the next seven day period as the result of a stable summer like weather pattern in place.

Some of the high resolution model guidance suggests a line of rain showers and thunderstorms will form to our west through northwest over west Texas by later this evening into the nighttime hours before moving eastward. At this point, I think that the precipitation will wash out before reaching the IH35 corridor and remain to our distant northwest.

Far to the east, a disturbed area of weather is located over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico but it is forecast to move more northward toward the Florida panhandle. As a result, there will be little effect on our local weather.

Have a good Monday..
