Austin / Travis County and South Central Texas Weather Update #3
Prepared by UT University/Incident Meteorologist Troy Kimmel
725pm CT – Sunday 31 December 2017
.. Freezing Rain and Freezing Drizzle Falling in Northern Parts of KH35 Corridor .
NWS Austin-San Antonio will be Issuing a Winter Weather Advisory for Northern Counties.. including Williamson.. Burnet and Lee Counties.. until 10pm tonight as additional very light precipitation moves in from the North …
I still expect precipitation to end in the next few hours, but, never the less, temperatures are now below freezing throughout much of the Austin metro area.. so slick spots – which have already been reported throughout Williamson County and parts of Travis County – will continue to be an issue until precipitation ends and clouds break by later tonight into early Monday morning.
An airport weather warning continues until the ABIA aerodrome until 8pm for light freezing precipitation. This could be extended.. please see. http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/cgi-bin/afos/retrieve.py?pil=awwaus&limit=1&fmt=html
As clouds break late tonight into New Years Day, this incoming air mass will produce a prolonged period of near to well below freezing temperatures for the first few days of the new year with highs only in the 30s and lows in the upper teens and 20s over central and south central Texas as clouds break. As a result, I’ll remind you again to remember “people, pets, pipes and plants.”
Happy New Years, all…. tk
